Società Acquedotti Tirreni operates as a wholesaler manager in the EAST Water ATO in the province of La Spezia, involving the withdrawal, purification and distribution of water, carrying out all ordinary and extraordinary work relating to the provision of the public water service.

SAT manages four well areas in three different municipalities in the province of La Spezia and a well area in the Municipality of Massa, two communicating reservoirs with a capacity of 500 cubic metres and about 25 kilometres of steel pipes with a diameter ranging between 400 and 500 millimetres, also including a double underground crossing of the river Magra.

The withdrawal potential of the well areas is approximately 10 million cubic metres per year.

Potabilisation and chemical, physical and organoleptic analyses

The water, which is withdrawn from the under flowing bed of the river Magra, falls into the category of low mineral content waters. To avoid contamination, all the water withdrawn is purified before being channelled into the distribution network.

Sample checks are carried out in compliance with the protocols provided for by the regulations in force and the analyses, performed in authorised laboratories, are carried out by highly skilled professionals and use the latest modern technologies.

Network and Plant Maintenance

SAT is responsible for the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of its infrastructures. Each year, the scheduled interventions and their progress are planned and transmitted to the sector Authority.

SAT performs the installation of new networks and the replacement of damaged ones on its own. All infrastructures are continuously monitored to ensure the systems operate perfectly.

Research, protection, withdrawal, collection and accumulation

We carry out hydrogeological surveys and surveys to monitor the condition of aquifers, in order to avoid excessive withdrawal and prevent the salt-wedge from rising. Regarding possible external pollution, specific studies have been carried out relating to the cones of influence of pollutants in the vicinity of the main well areas.
